Welcoming Our Intern: Sophia Nichol

Hello! My name is Sophia Nichol and I’m excited to be an intern with GOTR this summer! I’m going to be a junior at SFUHS, where I run cross country and track.

I joined the middle school cross country team in 8th grade and running has quickly become one of my favorite things to do. It’s so rewarding to see my training pay off as I push myself in races, and I love the feeling of running through the wind, but the best part of running for me is by far the team. My UHS teammates were so welcoming when I first joined and have become great friends, and my coach makes sure that we’re supported as whole people, not just as runners. I feel so lucky to get to run with these people every day as we bond over school, running, and so much more. The running community is truly the most motivating and supportive group I’ve been a part of, and it’s been such a big part of my life for the past few years.

So, when I heard about Girls on the Run of the Bay Area and what they do, I immediately wanted to get involved. Running has brought me so much joy and has been such a positive experience, and I want to be able to share that with other girls. It’s amazing how GOTR not only shares the beauty of running but also empowers young girls to be confident and kind, empathetic, and supportive of friends and teammates.

I’m so grateful that I get to join this incredible team this summer. I’m excited to learn about everything that goes into running this organization, and I can’t wait to see it all come together in the fall!
