Empowering Coaches: A Transformative Training Journey

Last week, Girls on the Run hosted a dynamic three-day training experience for coaches at the Sports Basement locations in Berkeley, Stonestown (San Francisco), and the Presidio (San Francisco). Each day was dedicated to a different group of coaches, offering them a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the program and prepare for a successful season of inspiring young girls.

Coaches attended one of three days, each designed to provide valuable hands-on training, interactive learning, and real-world practice scenarios. Throughout the sessions, participants delved into key coaching strategies, from managing the energy of a team to handling challenges that may arise with different personalities. One of the most impactful moments of the training was the “pretend practice,” where coaches participated in mock lessons and role-played various scenarios to better prepare for the dynamics of real-life practices. It was an invaluable way for coaches to build confidence and fine-tune their approach to leading a team.

And of course, the experience wouldn’t have been complete without plenty of delicious snacks to keep everyone fueled throughout the day! The sessions were stocked with yummy treats, including pretzels, various cheeses and fresh fruit, ensuring that the energy stayed high and spirits remained bright.

With each day tailored to a specific group of coaches, the overall experience was both intimate and empowering, providing participants the tools and support they need to lead their teams effectively. The training not only strengthened their understanding of the Girls on the Run curriculum but also reinforced the importance of creating a positive, encouraging environment for the girls they’ll be working with.

By the end of the three-day event, coaches walked away feeling inspired, well-prepared, and ready to make a lasting impact on the lives of the girls they’ll mentor throughout the season.
