My girl isn't a big runner; is this program for her? OR My girl is already a skilled runner. Is this program for her?

Yes! We are much more than a running program, and every participant can benefit from the experience of building confidence through accomplishment while participating in our rich, curriculum-based, age-appropriate, interactive lessons. Expect lots of games, talking, laughing and processing in addition to running at each practice. And know that when we say run, we mean run, walk, skip, roll or push, just as long as you are moving foward!

What locations are available?

We are currently forming our location partnerships for the coming season. If you'd like to start a team at your school, home, or a nearby community center or park, click here for more information.

Can my girl repeat the program?

Yes! Our curricula are designed to be repeated. Girls new to the program and girls repeating the program will both benefit from the lessons. We know what a child experiences and learns in Girls on the Run as a 3rd grader is quite different from what she learns as a 4th or 5th grader. With repetition, the depth of learning and the ability to apply what she learns is greater. Within Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole, we rotate between two curricula - so our girls experience similar topics, but with different games and activities from one season to the next. With that experience, returning girls often naturally step into mentoring and leadership roles.

How many participants and coaches are on each team?

There must be at least 2 coaches present at each practice, regardless of team size, in order to ensure safety. Most teams are around 12 youth: the minimum team size is 6 participants, and teams are typically no larger than 18-20 in order to ensure a personalized experience.

My child is nonbinary. Can they participate in the program?

Yes. Girls on the Run welcomes cisgender and transgender girls and nonbinary participants into our program. Nonbinary participants should be aware that the word girl is used in our curriculum and is printed on our T-shirts, worksheets, etc.

We can't afford the program registration fee, but our child would love to participate. How does the scholarship program work?

Don't let cost stop you! We are committed to making Girls on the Run accessible to all who want to participate! Thanks to generous donors and community supporters, financial aid is available to any family who needs it, and we can also provide appropriate running shoes if needed. The online registration form will walk you through a few questions to find the fee that works for your family based on a sliding scale.

What is the refund policy?

A girl’s parent/guardian is responsible for contacting Girls on the Run if their girl is not going to participate in the program. No refunds will be issued within 7 days of the start of the season and once the season has begun. A $25 administration fee will be charged on all cancellations, except in cases of medical emergencies with a doctor’s note or documentation. If a site is cancelled due to insufficient registration or other circumstances deemed appropriate by Girls on the Run, the full registration fee will be refunded.

Do girls need to attend both days each week in order to register?

Yes! Since most of our teams fill up quickly, if your girl will be unable to attend all the sessions, please save room for a girl who can, and consider joining us in a future season when she can enjoy the entire program.

Can I use my flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) benefits for my child's program fee?

Girls on the Run program fees are eligible for reimbursement via many company’s FSA or HSA plans. Check with your company’s benefits department for applicable enrollment information. GOTR will provide applicable details (EIN, etc.) to caregivers of registered participants.

Is there a way for me to sponsor a participant for a season?

Yes! As a mission-driven 501(c)3, Girls on the Run relies on generous donors in order to provide more than $30,000 in program scholarships for families in need. Click here to sponsor a participant this season.
